procedures > BOTOX® Therapeutic
* This procedure is for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
BOTOX® has
been used with increasing frequency by doctors for over 20 years
for more and more medical conditions. BOTOX® is now used to
treat excessive sweating of the underarms, palms and feet. It also
allows many people to experience blissful breaks from migraine and
tension headaches.
BOTOX® can do amazing things as well for cervical and laryngeal
dystonia spasms (uncontrolled spasms of shoulders, neck, larynx,
voice box or limbs), following stroke, multiple sclerosis, and
brain and spinal cord injuries.
Benefits:
- no more sweating in the area treated for 4 to 18 months
- relief
of severe headaches
- the cost of the BOTOX® is usually covered
under Extended Health Medical Benefit programs
How it works:
The procedure is fairly simple. A small volume of BOTOX® solution
is injected into the affected area through a very fine needle.
The needle is placed just under the skin. You will receive multiple
injections based on your doctor's assessment of the area and condition
to be treated.
What to expect:
Treatment times range between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the
area being treated. You should notice a significant reduction in
underarm sweating within one week of your first treatment. The
duration of a "sweat-free interval" increases by using
higher doses of BOTOX®. Studies have shown an absence of sweating
ranges between four months and 18 months. Headache relief is experienced
by 80% of patients for 3-4 months.
Botox Therapeutic is covered by most private insurance plans. If the cost of your Botox is covered by your plan, we will only charge you an injection fee. Please call the clinic for a consultation – individuals with hyperhidrosis find their new sweat-free status literally unbelievable!
