Botox® Migraine

Chronic Migraines affect approximately 2% of the worlds population and is the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world.

Severe migraine attacks are classified by the World Health Organization as one of the most debilitating illnesses – comparable to dementia. More than 4 million people have chronic daily migraines with at least 15 migraines per month.

About Botox® Migraine

BOTOX® Migraine has been used to address chronic migraines for over 20 years with great success and is Health Canada approved.

Approximately 85% of those that suffer from chronic migraines are women. The evidence suggests that fluctuations in estrogen levels can contribute to this immensely. Chronic migraines can affect all aspects of a persons life, including their relationships both personal and work related. Depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances are common for those with chronic migraines.

As an alternative to oral medications that generally treat rather than prevent. BOTOX® Therapeutic is safe and highly effective as a tool to reduce the intensity and frequency of chronic migraines and prevent many before they even start.

We use BOTOX® in our Vancouver practice for chronic migraine therapy. BOTOX® Therapeutic may be covered up to 100% by many private insurance plans and often those that have this type of coverage only have to pay an injection fee.

Benefits

  • Safe with no downtime
  • Migraine relief/reduction for up to 12 weeks

How It Works

It is believed that when used for chronic migraines, BOTOX® blocks the chemicals called neurotransmitters that carry the pain signals from your brain. Once the Botox® prevents the chemicals are blocked before they get to the nerve endings in your neck and head – reducing, and in some cases, preventing the pain.

It is important that you keep a “headache diary” to track where your chronic migraine begins and ends. This will help our Physicians determine your treatment pattern and dosage.
