What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a prescription neuromodulator containing abobotulinumtoxinA, a formulation of botulinum toxin type A. It is supplied as a powder that is prepared for injection by a qualified healthcare professional. Its formulation, potency units, preparation, and dosing instructions are specific to Dysport® and are not directly interchangeable with other botulinum toxin products.
How Does the Treatment Work
Botulinum toxin type A temporarily affects the release of acetylcholine at selected neuromuscular junctions. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter involved in signalling muscle contraction. The medical provider determines whether this mechanism is relevant to the individual treatment plan and selects the dose and placement according to the assessment and Dysport® product guidance.
Is the Treatment Safe?
Dysport® is a prescription product that must be assessed, prepared, and administered by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
Before treatment, your provider will review your medical history, current medications, allergies, previous botulinum toxin treatments, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any conditions that could increase risk.

Possible Treatment Reactions
Temporary effects may include headache, injection site discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, dry eye, eyelid swelling or drooping, blurred or double vision, and localized muscle weakness.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Rarely, toxin effects may spread beyond the injection area and cause generalized weakness or difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms occur.
