Microdermabrasion is a pleasant skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin, which takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. For microdermabrasion at The Vancouver Laser & Skin Care Centre, we use Dermasweep. This treatment buffs and polishes the skin to achieve a healthy glow and help alleviate fine lines, pigmentation, acne and dull dry skin. It stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen. It is also popular to remove the rough skin of keratosis pilares found on the upper arms and shoulders. It has proven to be a very popular, non-surgical cosmetic procedure with no downtime.
Exfoliation and buffing can improve the appearance of aging skin, fine lines, scarring, sun damage and wrinkles.

How Microdermabrasion Works
During a Vancouver microdermabrasion treatment, nylon and silk bristles are moved across the skin with applied vacuum suction, resulting in a very gentle and controlled exfoliation of the skin. The treatment also removes dead surface cells and clears the pores of debris. Over time and treatments, pigment fades away and surface irregularities, such as fine wrinkles and acne scars, begin to soften. The vacuum suction can be increased depending on patient tolerance for more aggressive blackhead clearance.
What to Expect
Treatment of the whole face takes about 30 minutes. There is no pain. The area treated may be slightly pink for 1 to 2 days. For smooth skin, a little microdermabrasion goes a long way. Sloughing off the uppermost layer of the skin reveals a fresher, younger-looking face. Regular microdermabrasion sessions are perfect for keeping superficial lines to a minimum, and active skin products will penetrate better following microdermabrasion.
